  • Jinx Jones

Denver native Jinx Jones got his start in music early and relocated to the Bay Area in 1989. His guitar artistry landed him work with legendary artists including Chuck Berry, Roy Buchanan and Solomon Burke. Underscoring his pan-genre fluidity, he played bass on En Vogue’s 1992’s smash hit “Free Your Mind.” Back in the rock idiom, he launched the Kingtones; Jones has released five albums that draw upon rockabilly, swing and surf: License to Twang, Rumble & Twang, Rip and Run, Live Twang in Finland and Twang-Tastic! His 2021 album, Blue Gardenia, showcased Jones’ versatility via his command of jazz styling.

Jinx Jones is known around the Bay Area as the guy with the “big twang guitar.” He moves from rockabilly to jazz to twang and back again with head-spinning ease.

He uses the phrases “honky-tonk, rockin’, surfin’ freakout, rockabilly dance party” to describe his shows.

“There are very few guitarists on the scene today who have a resume like San Francisco picker Jinx Jones. After having played with both Chuck Berry and Roy Buchanan, Jones has established himself as one of the top rockabilly guitarists on the scene today.” Dr. Matt Warnock; Guitar International Magazine

Jinx Jones has been twice nominated for Male Rockabilly Artist of the Year by the Ameripolitan Music Awards, has received gold and platinum record awards for his work with R&B divas, En Vogue, has won songwriting awards and has been recognized as one of the hottest acts on the San Francisco music scene.

In Jinx Jones’ impressive musical career, he has visited nearly every conceivable style and genre of the electric guitar. From his work Chuck Berry, Solomon Burke, and Roy Buchanan to his own acclaimed rockabilly albums, “License to Twang,” “Rumble & Twang,” “Rip and Run,” Live Twang in Finland.” And “Twang-Tastic!,” Jones has always strived to expand the possibilities of the instrument. He accepts every musical challenge head on, always making an impressive statement with his music. The one thing that remains consistent throughout Jones’ multi-stylistic journey is the grace and finesse of his virtuoso playing.

“Jinx Jones and his trio serve up fine examples of American Music, all with Jinx playing the living hell out of the guitar.” John Heidt, Vintage Guitar Magazine
