Evening Glass - Indie Rock from Sonoma, California

"Best Indie" in the North Bay Bohemian for 2023 and 2024.

The band's latest release is 2024's Wait Until 3 single and b-side Time Got Away. The basic tracks were self-recorded live as a four-piece, with the band's own recording equipment at Pete Carlson's Moon Valley Sound (named after “Norton Buffalo’s” place) in Sonoma, California. Vocals and bedroom overdubs were recorded at home.

The single and its b-side follow-up their prior release, which was named the #4 EP of the year by Janglepop Hub. The group expands their sound from there, drawing on college rock of the 80’s, with a nod to indie bands of the 90’s. The music also has hints of light psychedelia, like the many of the artists they were featured alongside on last year’s Petal Motel compilation, “compassion: a petal motel compilation for human rights”. The sound ends up somewhere adjacent to that of their contemporaries, like some of the Fog Pop bands from their very own San Francisco Bay Area. It’s all fitting together, as they were recently named “best indie” by the North Bay Bohemian.

Add to Wantlist described the band and their 2022 EP by saying, “Just like it never gets boring to watch the rippling sea at sunset, you can also put on the 6-track EP Steady Motion by Californian four-piece Evening Glass at any time. Zachary Carroll (vocals, guitar), Thomas whose last name is unknown (bass, backing vocals), Chris Miller (guitar) and PJ Hakimi (drums) build on the sound of the Paisley Underground, but their playlist of influences just as easily refers to old pioneers as The Velvet Underground, Tom Waits and Richard Hell as well as to contemporary artists such as Good Morning, Hand Habits and The Umbrellas. Anyway, this is fine indie pop with pleasant vocals and wonderful melodies by jangly guitars. Float along for 20 minutes.”

Jangle Pop Hub featured the first Evening Glass release "Lifelong Dream" on their weekly new music recommendations in 2020 and said, "With the lo-fi bounce of a Parker Longbough type act, Evening Glass, led by Zachary Carroll, have the sort of dynamism that unexpectedly buries itself deep within the coolest recesses of the ear-worm territories of your mind."
