Lauded jazz guitar virtuoso and producer Fabrizio Sotti, has successfully struck a delicate balance between jazz and other musical genres in the past 30 years. It’s only natural given his legacy of diverse collaborations, which spans from Cassandra Wilson, Shaggy, Dead Prez, Ice T, Ghostface Killah, Tupac, Melanie Fiona, Foxy Brown, K’naan, Zucchero, Roy Hargrove, Al Foster, John Patitucci and Randy Brecker to name a few.
Celebrating his 50th Birthday at the Blue Note in NYC, Sotti will present a very eclectic set, ranging from Jazz Standards, his own original compositions to his iconic records written with Cassandra Wilson and Dead Prez.
Fabrizio Sotti and Cassandra Wilson started their musical collaboration over two decades ago. Shortly after being introduced in 2002 they began work on Cassandra's album "Glamoured" (Blue Note) with Sotti integrally involved as guitarist, composer and producer. The critically acclaimed release featured a broad palette of material from the Wilson/Sotti composed creations, to covers of songs written by the likes of Muddy Waters, Willie Nelson and Sting. The combination of Cassandra's and Fabrizio's respective talents of composing, performing and production, resulted in a recording that still resonates today.
A decade down the road, 2012, a musical reunion and a release of exquisite and organic beauty, titled "Another Country" featuring Fabrizio Sotti materialized.
Comprised for the most part, of newly composed material by Wilson and Sotti. Exceptions included the timeless Italian paean to love written in 1898, "O Sole Mio" , and and a pair of crystalline Sotti originals performed on solo guitar, the collection blends the virtuosity and sensibility of Sotti's acoustic and electric guitarwork with the ever maturing smoky sfumato vocal approach Wilson was becoming known for.
Two decades from their first encounter, 2022, they released a new acoustic version of their song “Another Country”. In 2005, M1 of Dead Prez and Fabrizio Sotti got together to collaborate on M1’s Album “Confidential” (2006) creating classic records such as “Till We Get There” feat. K’Nann, “Love You Can’t Borrow” feat Q Tip and Cassandra Wilson and “Been Through” feat. Ghostface Killah.
