Hannibal Buress continues to entertain, engage, and enliven audiences as a comedian, writer, podcaster, actor, and rapper under the name of “Eshu Tune.” This multi-faceted creator went from grinding at standup open mic nights in his native Chicago to writing for30 Rock and Saturday Night Live. For the latter, he even garnered an EMMY® Award nomination in the category of “Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Series.”To date, he has headlined six unanimously acclaimed comedy specials, namely My Name Is Hannibal [2010], Animal Furnace [2012], Live from Chicago [2014], Comedy Camisdado [2016], Hannibal Takes Edinburgh [2016], and Miami Nights [2020]. Beyond renown for his co-lead role on Adult Swim’s The Eric Andre Show and recurring character on Comedy Central’s Broad City, he has appeared in dozens of films and television series. His top 10 movies have notably exceeded $3.2 billion in combined box office gross (which he proudly takes credit for, especially Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: No Way Home). He never strayed too far from music though. Rewinding back to his days at Southern Illinois University, he fashioned himself quite the college battle rapper, while he later co-starred in JAY-Z’s “Moonlight” music video (HOV was too scared to let him rap). He jumped into hip-hop headfirst as Eshu Tune. In 2022, he dropped his independent self-titled debut Eshu Tune, posted up millions of streams, collaborated with the likes of Danny Brown and Paul Wall, and incited the applause of everyone fromPeople to Brooklyn Vegan to NME and Passion of the Weiss. Meanwhile, he shared stages with Black Thought of The Roots, Little Brother, Robert Glasper, and Marc Rebillet. A devoted dad, gamer, and sports fanatic, he takes every opportunity to give back, supporting Chicago schools. Ultimately, there’s nobody quite like Hannibal Buress (or Eshu Tune), and there never will be.
