Blue Note Hawaii
An Evening With Justin Kawika Young, Izik & Kala

To Benefit Hawai’i Says NO MORE
An Evening With Justin Kawika Young, Izik & Kala'e Parish
    Sponsored by Kamehameha Schools

Hawaiʻi Says NO MORE (HSNM) is a collaboration of individuals, programs and organizations across the state who are taking action to increase awareness and visibility to prevent and end domestic violence and sexual assault.

HSNM is part of the NO MORE national initiative, which is exemplified by a signature blue vanishing point originated from the concept of a zero – as in “no more” domestic violence and sexual assault anywhere in our relationships, families and communities.

Our values as a community reflect aloha (love, affection, kindness), pono (goodness; respect; equity) andʻohana (family; connections). Violence does not reflect these values and Hawaiʻi Says NO MORE.

100% of net proceeds for the evening will support 4 HSNM beneficiaries: Parents and Children Together, Child and Family Service, Women Helping Women and Catholic Charities.

    • Justin Kawika Young

Born and raised in Hawaiʻi, Justin Kawika Young first found success in his island home. He accumulated eleven number-one hits on Hawaiʻi radio before relocating to Los Angeles. He quickly established a following in the LA music scene and connected with singer-songwriter Colbie Caillat, eventually joinging her band.

Young toured with Caillat as her acoustic guitarist/background vocalist and co-wrote two songs on Caillatʻs "All Of You" album. In 2019, Young and Caillat formed a band in Nashville with two friends called Gone West. They debuted at The Grand Ole Opry in October of 2019. Their album, "Canyons," peaked at #1 on the iTunes country charts and #3 overall. Gone Westʻs single, "What Could Have Been," hit the top 25 at Country Radio.

Justinʻs original music can also be heard on the soundtracks for the movies "Shallow Hal," "Restrepo," "Point Break," "Wild Horses" and "The Walking Dead" TV series.

    • Izik

    • Kala'e Parish

Kala’e has been a professional musician and entertainer in Hawai’i since 2013 performing throughout the islands and abroad. In 2016, he began his solo journey as an artist performing at steady spots in Honolulu and recording his very first EP. This new EP titled Where I Reside hit the airwaves in December 2020. With all original songs written and composed by Kala’e, this eclectic, 6-track EP is a fresh twist of music from pop country infused with lyrics about his island home to smooth latin rock to love ballads. In 2020, Kala’e was a featured songwriter on Kuha’o Maunakea, an 18-track compilation album with some of Hawai’is top performers, and was recognized at the 2020 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards for his composition of “We Are A Voice” featured on that album. In 2021, "Where I Reside" by Kala’e won a Na Hoku Hanohano Award for Extended Play (EP) of the year. As a Hawai’i Island artist residing in beautiful Waimea, he continues to perform regularly throughout all the islands and is actively in the recording studio with new original music to be released soon.
