Christina Sochor - “Not a Phone In Sight” - Album Release Concert

Honolulu rising star Christina Sochor brings her band of Hawaiʻi’s finest jazz musicians to Blue Note Hawaiʻi on Wednesday, November 11 for a unique show celebrating the release of her debut album, “Not a Phone In Sight.”

Signing with a national record label and selling out two concerts at Hawaiʻi Public Radio earlier this year, Sochor has made clear that in addition to possessing supreme talent, she and her music have great appeal. These accomplishments are particularly noteworthy given that Sochor is just 23 years old.

At Blue Note Hawaiʻi, Sochor, a classically trained pianist, will present a novel program. Her new album features a collection of jazz, R&B, neo-soul and gospel arrangements of contemporary hits from video games, animation and American, pop-culture, film classics. On November 11, she, her band and special guests will perform songs from the album, including music from Zelda, Mario, Pokémon, Animal Crossing and other video game classics.

Mark your calendar and join us for a night of hits! All divinely loved, yet rarely celebrated - presented like you’ve never heard before by piano phenomenon Christina Sochor and her crack band of jazz musicians.

  • Christina Sochor

Christina Sochor is a 23 year-old jazz pianist who has called Hawaiʻi home for just over a year. Despite this limited tenure, Sochor has already made her mark in the islands’ vibrant jazz scene, amassing a large contingent of passionate fans and taking island jazz in new directions.

Sochor is a classically trained virtuoso who has absorbed skills and inspiration from past masters like Oscar Peterson and Bill Evans and gone on to forge an exciting new style of her own. Her comfort and dexterity are attributed in part to her logging many hours honing her craft - performing in classical competitions since age 10 and traveling the world as the pianist of cruise ship ensembles since age 19.

Much of Sochor’s repertoire is inspired by the music of her childhood, although her touchstones are decidedly unconventional. Rather than radio hits or the records in her parents’ collection, she draws from songs turned into classics by popular films and video games, including Pokémon and Super Mario. Her focus on this new vein of creative fodder has given her music a unique identity, bringing the skills she learned from past masters to a whole new sonic world.
