Monterey is the longest consecutively running jazz festival in the world. This exclusive presentation, MONTEREY JAZZ FESTIVAL ON TOUR 55TH ANNIVERSARY, celebrates the Festival’s legacy expanding the boundaries of live jazz presentation. The dream of founder Jimmy Lyons became reality in 1958, when the first Monterey Jazz Festival featured artists like Dizzy Gillespie, Louis Armstrong, John Lewis, Sonny Rollins, Gerry Mulligan, Art Farmer, Ernestine Anderson, Harry James, Max Roach, and Billie Holiday. This 55th Anniversary Tour reflects Monterey’s “traditional-untraditionalist” attitude, jazz-with-a-purpose exuberance, and joyful fun that continues to be the hallmark of the festival to this day.

Over the last four decades Dee Dee Bridgewater has risen to the top tier of today’s jazz vocalists. She is a multiple Grammy winner, Tony-award winner, has been nominated for London theater’s West End equivalent, and has received France’s top honor, the Victoire de la Musique.

Christian McBride's large sound and expertise are reminiscent of Ray Brown and Paul Chambers. McBride studied at Juilliard and has played with Bobby Watson, Benny Golson, Roy Hargrove, Freddie Hubbard, Ray Brown, Pat Metheny and a host of others.

Jazz drummer Lewis Nash has toured and recorded with a who’s who of jazz: Betty Carter, Tommy Flanagan, Oscar Peterson, Sonny Rollins, Ray Brown, Horace Silver, Ron Carter, Hank Jones, Benny Carter, Milt Jackson, Art Farmer, McCoy Tyner, Joe Lovano, Pat Martino, Clark Terry, Diana Krall, Joe Williams, and Nancy Wilson.

Saxophonist Chris Potter has emerged as a leading light of his generation. Down Beat called him "One of the most studied (and copied) saxophonists on the planet" while Jazz Times identified him as "a figure of international renown." Potter's impressive discography includes 15 albums as a leader and sideman appearances on over 100 albums.

Trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire has worked with Steve Coleman, Joe Henderson, Aaron Parks and Vijay Iyer, Josh Roseman and Esperanza Spalding. In 2007 Akinmusire won the Carmine Caruso International Jazz Trumpet Solo Competition and the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition.

Pianist Benny Green played as a teenager with Joe Henderson and Woody Shaw. He spent years in the bands of Betty Carter and Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. He has also worked with Freddie Hubbard, and as a member of Ray Brown's Trio. He has recorded for Criss Cross, Blue Note and Telarc.
