“With her unique vocal style--- full and rich as Diana Krall’s, yet idiosyncratic as Nellie McKay’s and shot-through with a keen folk-rock sensibility---Naylor remains one of the most superbly arresting vocalists around.”

“Naylor is part jazz chanteuse and part folk-pop-leaning singer/songwriter. She could easily get by performing only her own material, but her covers and standards are so appealingly original that her albums and shows wouldn't be the same without them.”
-All Music Guide

"Acoustic Smashing marks a turning point in Naylor’s career."
-The Wall Street Journal

"Naylor has the chops and sensitivity to pull it off."
-New York Times Magazine

Jacqui Naylor returns to Blue Note for three nights with new music and a recently released full-length DVD documentary, “Lucky Girl –A Portrait of Jacqui Naylor,”(Ruby Star / eOne 2012). The documentary follows the artist out on tour and into the studio for the making of her eighth and recent CD, also called Lucky Girl (Ruby Star / eOne 2011) The album received international acclaim in the United States and Japan and hits the streets of Europe this week. With a wide vocal range and innovative style, Naylor is a rare artist, known as well for her own compositions as she is for her sensitive treatment of jazz standards.

The artist’s New Orleans jazz-styled original title track, “Lucky Girl,” and pop single “Dreamin’ Prayin’ Wishin’” have been licensed for use in advertising by Amoro Jewelry and by Two Degrees Foods for their campaign to end world hunger. And from her previous album, the single “Celebrate Early and Often” has been touted by Martha Stewart Weddings as “the new wedding standard” and licensed by Novell Wedding Rings and “Rise Up” featured on the Obama-Biden Website.

Naylor is perhaps best known for her ability to mix genres from different generations through the arranging technique she calls “acoustic smashing,” where she sings the words and melody of a standard over the groove of a rock or pop song or vice versa. The film includes examples with “My Funny Valentine” from Rodgers and Hart sung over the groove of ACDC’s “Back In Black,” “Black Coffee” from Webster and Burke atop Led Zeppelin’s “Moby Dick,” and “The Surrey With The Fringe On Top” over Benson’s “Breezin.'”

Naylor’s recordings have made the top 10 albums of the season in USA today, Jazziz Magazine and The Washington Post. With celebrated performances at Blue Note New York, Milan and Tokyo, Ronnie Scott’s London, Jamboree Barcelona, Unterfahrt Munich, Jazz Club Istanbul and The Monterey Jazz Festival, this artist is not to be missed. Hear her with her long time band members Art Khu (piano, guitar and organ) and drummer Josh Jones from San Francisco along with New York’s own Richie Goods. They’ll play the most requested songs from Naylor’s recordings along with new material and standards from her upcoming 2013 release, “Dead Divas Society”.
