Blue Note Hawaii
East Side Jam

East Side Jam
Featuring Tavana, Kawika Kahiapo, Ryan Perez, Asaiah Scott & Sam Ites

Eleven-time Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award winner and Grammy Award contributor Kawika Kahiapo began his musical journey sitting in on jam sessions in his family’s garage with Hawaiian music legend Gabby “Pops” Pahinui and Kawika’s father. These jams encapsulated so much of the musical culture of the region - musical excellence, kanikapila and pride.

This January 28th “East Side Jam” concert at Blue Note Hawai‘i celebrates this culture, showcasing *premiere* east side musicians who embody this energy and tradition and are pushing the region’s music and spirit forward today.

Mark your calendars, tell your friends and grab your tickets now. A rare musical gathering is just around the corner, one that promises equal doses of magical music and community connection. East Side Jam - not to be missed!

WINDWARD WINDS

Musicians who grow up and/or cut their teeth on the east side do so with great reverence for and understanding of the music that came before them. They are also immersed in opportunities to perform with and learn from one another. This culture is carried door-to-door via windward winds.

The result? A commitment to your craft and knowledge base that translate to supreme musicianship, if you have the talent. Each “East Side Jam” artist possesses it in spades.

GROOVE, HEART, INSPIRATION

One of the many lessons taught by Waimanalo’s Gabby Pahinui was: always play with groove and heart.

Tavana, Kawika Kahiapo, Ryan Perez, Asaiah Scott and Sam Ites bring mega helpings of rhythm and passion to every gig they play. In addition, their musical sensibilities, styles and perspectives are tailor made for each other.

The cherry on top - each of these primo musicians is FIRED UP for this East Side Jam.

Buckle up, the intimate stage at Blue Note Hawaiʻi is ready to blast into the outer universe!
