Holger Marjamaa presented by the Consulate General of Estonia

Marjamaa, 25, was born in Tallinn, Estonia and raised in a musical family. From an early age, Marjamaa demonstrated precocious musical interest and talent, able to imitate, sing, and play well-known classical pieces and jazz standards..

Marjamaa began formally studying classical and jazz piano at age 5 in Tallinn Music High School, and by age 7 knew he wanted to be a jazz musician. He continued his studies at Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre and Sibelius Academy.

As a professional, Marjamaa has performed with Dennis Chambers, Lizz Wright, Lonnie Liston Smith, Lee Pearson II, John Riley, Lee Ritenour, Mark Gross and the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra.

Holger holds many awards in both jazz and classical piano performance, including: first prize in Estonia’s Rainbow Jazz Competition (Tartu, Estonia; 2006); Grand Prix at the XXIV International Solo Jazz Piano Competition (Vilnius, Lithuania; 2013); second prize at the II International Tallinn Piano Competition (Tallinn, Estonia; 2011); third prize at the International F. Chopin Piano Competition (Narva, Estonia; 2010); and the Young Estonian Jazz Talent Award (Tallinn, Estonia; 2013). Marjamaa was also a semi-finalist in the 2018 Thelonious Monk Jazz Piano Competition. He has performed across the Unite States, Europe and Asia, venues as Lincoln Centre, Mezzrow Jazz Club, Smalls Jazz Club, Blue Note Tokyo etc.

Marjamaa’s musical career has led him to New York City, where he studied in the Masters program at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music. A talent all grown up, Marjamaa is now an in-demand jazz pianist in both Europe and abroad.
