  • Morris Day and the Time

A Minneapolis native with a flair for fashion, Morris Day rose to fame as the charismatic frontman of The Time, a band originally created as Prince's street-wise funk alter-ego. Day and Prince were high school friends and former bandmates in the group Grand Central. Morris Day and The Time became global stars following their appearance in the film Purple Rain and the release of iconic hits like "Jungle Love," "Cool," and "777-9311". Following his time with the group, Day launched a successful solo career with albums such as The Color of Success. With combined sales of over 10 million units, Morris Day remains a definitive figure of the Minneapolis sound.

  • Sheila E

Known as the "Queen of Percussion," Sheila E. is a world-class drummer, percussionist, and Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter with a career spanning over four decades. Raised in the Bay Area, her musical foundation was built on Latin jazz, Motown, and funk, influenced by family members like her father Pete Escovedo and godfather Tito Puente. She rose to mainstream fame following a collaboration with Prince in 1984, which launched her solo career with the hits "The Glamorous Life" and "A Love Bizarre". Sheila E. has performed with legendary artists ranging from Herbie Hancock and Marvin Gaye to Beyoncé and Ringo Starr. Beyond the stage, she is an actress, author of the memoir The Beat of My Own Drum, and a philanthropist who co-founded Elevate Oakland to support arts programming in schools.
