  • Nicolas Bearde

Award winning recording artist, Nicolas Bearde is a singer-songwriter, actor, and educator whose career has spanned over 35 years.  From his humble beginnings (born and raised in Nashville, TN, the second of 7 children) to touring the world with many of today's jazz legends, Bearde has travelled many roads.  His style is likened to Lou Rawls, Nat King Cole and Bill Withers and he is known for his "velvet voice", witty and engaging rapport that has drawn audiences into his live performances around the globe.

Bearde, who has been a Bay Area treasure since he moved here from Nashville, TN in the 1980’s, is known for his velvet voice, wit and engaging rapport and has a style likened to Lou Rawls, Nat King Cole and Bill Withers.

He originally made his mark as an original member of Bobby McFerrin’s innovative a cappella ensemble, Voicestra and later its off-shoot, SoVoSó. He has released 6 albums as leader and is also the vocalist and narrator for saxophone great Vincent Herring’s “Story of Jazz Orchestra” that chronicles 100 years of recorded jazz.

From San Francisco to New York to London and beyond, he has travelled the globe and has performed and/or recorded with jazz legends such as Nat Adderley, Jr, Vincent Herring, James Carter, Steve Turre, Jon Faddis, and Bobby McFerrin. With his supple phrasing and tender delivery, Bearde turns every song he sings into personal expressions of love, hope, and soul.

As a solo artist he headlined venues from San Francisco, Miami, Savannah and New York to London and Paris, And... as the vocalist/narrator for sax legend, Vincent Herring's "Story of Jazz Orchestra" - a 10-piece ensemble of jazz luminaries (Eric Alexander, James Carter, Jon Faddis, Jeremy Pelt, Steve Turre, Mike LeDonne, Kenny Davis, and Carl Allen) toured most of Europe presenting jazz music's 100 years of recorded history.

Bearde acted with Danny Glover (his first stage play) in the early 80’s and was also cast in Master Harold ...and the Boys right out of acting school. Although he concentrated on acting for a few years - first theatre then expanding into film (Final Analysis w/Richard Gere and Kim Basinger, True Crime with Clint Eastwood) and television (Nash Bridges and Monk), music continued to be his dominant muse.
