Where Detroit’s beat legacy meets London’s new jazz order.
Detroit’s Slum Village emerged from the late-90s scene that gave us J Dilla, the Soulquarians and a new language between hip-hop, jazz and soul. Decades later, that influence still runs deep, with the group carrying one of underground hip-hop’s most important legacies forward.
Blue Lab Beats came of age in a very different London, but with the same instinct to pull jazz into the music around them. The Grammy-winning duo have built their sound through hip-hop production, jazz musicianship, soul, Afrobeats and electronica, becoming key players in the generation that reshaped the sound of UK jazz.
Curated by Robert Glasper, this one-off brings the repertoire of both acts into bold new territory.
