From the explosive force of Sons of Kemet and The Comet Is Coming to his recent journey into flute, electronics and voice, Shabaka Hutchings has never stayed in one place for long.
With Of The Earth, he goes deeper still. Written, performed, produced and mixed entirely by Shabaka, the album trades some of his earlier work’s intensity for hypnotic loops, breath-led melodies and spacious textures, drawing on years of studying flute traditions from Japan, the Americas and beyond.
For these four shows, he brings the album into a live setting alongside guitarist Dave Okumu and drummer Austin Williamson — three musicians with plenty of room to stretch, respond and take the music somewhere unexpected.
