A giant of West African music, Baaba Maal has spent four decades connecting the musical traditions of northern Senegal with the sounds of the wider world. Born in Podor, he developed a singular voice that brings the rhythms and instruments of West Africa into conversation with soul, blues and electronic music. From Djam Leelii to Being, Maal has continued to evolve that sound without losing its connection to home. He arrives at Blue Note London with his brand new quintet, promising a distinctive blend of tradition, modernity and West African musical heritage.
