Over the past several years, New York alto saxophonist Patrick Cornelius has emerged as an exciting and dynamic new voice in the New York jazz scene. An instrumental virtuoso who counts Charlie Parker, Sidney Bechet, Wayne Shorter, Claude Debussy, and Peter Gabriel among his influences, Patrick has made a name for himself as “a bold and gifted sax player” (All About Jazz), a “resourceful young improviser” (The New York Times), and a composer of “dusky elegance” (JazzTimes).

His bands have performed at international venues such as The Blue Note, The Monterey Jazz Festival, Ronnie Scott’s, and The London Jazz Festival, as well as some of New York’s most popular clubs, like The Jazz Gallery, The Bar Next Door, and Smalls. He cut his teeth performing in his native San Antonio while still in high school, before attending both Berklee College of Music and The Manhattan School of Music on full scholarships for undergraduate and graduate studies.

Patrick won the Young Jazz Composer Award from the American Society for Composers and Performers three years in a row and was described as “a new American name to watch” by JazzWise Magazine. His performances and recordings have featured some of the most exciting young talents in New York: Kendrick Scott, Lionel Loueke, Aaron Goldberg, Avishai Cohen (trumpet), Gerald Clayton, Ambrose Akinmusire, Aaron Parks, Gretchen Parlato, and Johnathan Blake.
