After graduating from William Patterson University in the late 90s, internationally acclaimed drummer Derrek Phillips first rose to international prominence from 2000-2006 by touring in the U.S., Europe and Japan with saxophonist Greg Osby, trumpeter Dave Douglas and predominantly with 8 string guitar guru Charlie Hunter, recording three albums (Right Now Move, Friends Seen and Unseen, Coperopolis) and the live DVD, "Right Now Live." Derrek has also played with organist Dr. Lonnie Smith, saxophonist John Ellis, guitarists Peter Bernstein and Liberty Ellman, saxophonists Joshua Redman and the late Michael Brecker and pianists Vijay Iyer and Jason Moran. He currently tours and records with St. Louis-based vocalist Erin Bode and leads a new, instrumental ensemble Derrek Phillips and Manufactory.
“Derrek Phillips is a terrific drummer who possesses great time and feel...[He is] willing to, and can, play anything."
-Charlie Hunter (The Wire, 2005)
Phillips has completed recording a full-length project with his new group Derrek Phillips and Manufactory for fall 2009 release called “Offering” featuring the young and exceptional talents of guitarist Adam Agati and keyboardist Paul Horton.
