Gideon King & City Blog

Formed in 2015 by guitarist and songwriter, Gideon King, GKCB has tapped musical luminaries over the years as featured vocalists and musicians on both of their past albums. The band’s most recent release, Upscale Madhouse (2018), was met with much fanfare as L.A.’s Noho Arts District raved that the album was “strewn with gorgeous phrasing and smoothly finished subversive, questioning lyrics.” All About Jazz commended King’s songwriting skills as “topical while remaining aloof,” and Medium Mag praised the project as a “multi-sensationalized and poignant display of urban resonance.” Boasting appearances by 3x Grammy Award winning guitarist John Scofield, pop vocalist Conrad Sewell (Kygo), and Thirdstory frontman Elliott Skinner, among others, Upscale Madhouse gives fans a refined, abstract and compelling version of GKCB that builds upon the band’s first release, City Blog (2015). In addition to some of the most renowned vocalists in the industry, King brought in a range of established New York City session musicians and producers such as James Genus(Daft Punk, Herbie Hancock), Nate Smith(Chris Potter and three time Grammy nominee), Adrian Harpham (Dr. John, Joss Stone), Nathan Peck (Alex Skolnick Trio), Grammy winner Luques Curtis (Eddie Palmieri), Donald Edwards (Wynton Marsalis, Freddie Hubbard), Kevin Hayes(John Scofield, Steve Gadd)Bryan Reeder (Chris Norton), and more. Bringing a fascinating mix of rock, jazz, fusion, and funk to their performances, GKCB has quickly become a staple in the NYC pop/funk/jazz community. Praised by HuffPost as a “musical genius,” King is gearing up for a slew of new singles this spring, including the release of “Audience of One” featuring Skinner. Whether playing at iconic haunts such as The Blue Note or City Winery, or curating showcases of vocalists for Sofar Sounds, King and the band show no signs of slowing down.
