UDOBI “In The Wild” ALBUM RELEASE

The music of New York City-based trio, UDOBI, finds you, at first, casually. Perhaps a friend hips you to it. Or, maybe you hear it blissfully meandering down the sidewalk. But you keep listening. It massages your ear, tugs at it and turns your head. Now you’re paying attention: cinematic songs roll before you like a movie reel. Protagonist horns and antihero organs mix with affectionate snares and deus ex machina bass lines. These are the characters you fall for.

Fronted by cosmic pianist, Hope Udobi Nwachukwu, the band’s debut self-titled LP, which is produced by the directorial ear of New York City’s Zack Dawson, is a quest through howling sonic forests rich with starlit trumpets, nimble rhythms and misty synths. A native of D.C.-native, Udobi is an award-winning pianist and was recently selected as the Artist in Residence by Jazz at the Lincoln Center. The musician has performed with top-billed artists like Common, Goldlink and Lalah Hathaway.

The album, which fuses the front man's deep life experiences with futuristic sounds, was recorded and honed in studios from New York to D.C. to Miami, concluding with a session with Jimmy “The Senator” Douglas, who helped fully form its final sound. Featuring more than 20 versatile musicians, the album also includes three songs recorded in 3D for Bose, allowing for a vast creative and technical soundscape for harmonies and shifting moods. But in the end, the record can be understood in only one of two ways: it is either the begging or the end of something. And you, dear listener, get to decide.
