Erena Terakubo was born in Sapporo, Japan in 1992. She began playing the alto saxophone at the age of nine, and has studied under Vincent Herring. She took jazz clinics with renowned musicians such as Herbie Hancock while acting as a member of the Sapporo Junior Jazz Orchestra.

In 2010, Terakubo released her first album, "North Bird" with Kenny Barron, Christian McBride, Lee Pearson and Peter Bernstein, through Japanese major label King Records. It marked No. 1 on the Japanese jazz charts, and was awarded Swing Journal's Gold Disc. Later that year, she performed with Ron Carter, Omar Hakim and Will Boulware at the Tokyo Jazz Festival. In 2011, Terakubo recorded her second album, "New York Attitude" with Kenny Barron, Ron Carter, Lee Pearson and Dominick Farinacci. In the same year, she received the presidential scholarship from Berklee College of Music. In 2002, she performed at Monterey Jazz Festival and Playboy Jazz Festival. Terakubo recorded her third disc, "Burkina", in 2013, featuring Kenny Barron, Ron Carter, Jimmy Cobb and Lenny White. In 2015, she moved to New York after graduating from Berklee Collage of Music. In 2016, she released her fourth album, "A Time For Love" with David Hazeltine, David Williams and Lewis Nash, all over the world by Canadian label Cellar Live. She plays at well-known jazz clubs such as Blue Note, The Kitano and Blues Alley.

Terakubo continues to perform energetically in the States as well as in Japan, as one of the most promising talents in jazz.
